to do list

This is going to be a very busy week around here.
We finally moved West's crib into Harry's room and have the guest room back. It was getting kind of ridiculous when people came to visit. They either had to bunk with our temperamental toddler or he slept in our room... and he is not a fun bed-mate.
So, I now have a disaster zone in the guest room. It is a mixture of all of the things that the boys have grown out of, extra books and toys that don't currently fit into their newly shared space, all of my sewing and craft stuff, the changing table, and of course the guest bed. Somehow this space needs to be functional by the end of the week when my mom is coming to visit.
I did manage to get all of the boys' things into the small room in an organized way. It isn't the prettiest room in the world, but it will do. The plan is to make a dino room for them in the next house, so I will have my eyes open for some awesome bedding and art. I will try to get some pictures of their shared room up soon. It's kinda adorable to have them both go in their together at night.
PS I am turning 26 this Wednesday. Goodbye early twenties.

sharing is caring

With the fact that we will soon be a family of 5 quickly becoming a reality to both the Mister and I, the time has come to figure out a new sleeping arrangement for the two little men. They currently have separate bedrooms. This has been a necessity due to the fact that neither have been what you might call "good sleepers". On the contrary, my kids are terrible sleepers. They cry, talk, sing and do whatever they can think of to get out of bed. We are making progress, though, and think that by the time the little guy is 18 months that we will be able to swing a shared room.

This has lead to the search for share spaces that are both functional and cute. Here are a few that have caught my eye.

Yes, I know that all three of these look a bit girly... but, I am positive that with the right interpretation that they could be transformed into amazing spaces for two fancy fellas such as my own.
The biggest problem I think that I will be facing is the fact that we are not going to paint. So I will have to find a creative way to cover parts of the acid green walls.
Good thing I like a challenge.

look what i did...

Just so you know... I did it.

Annnnnnnd I might have gone a little overboard with the pictures above the TV... but I like it!
I am in love with so many of the prints that we have been collecting for the past year or so, that I couldn't pick just a few. I added some family pictures and the word "PRAY". It's so nice to look around and actually like what I see.

Living room

I just need to get this done so that I can feel as though I have at least completed something.

Welcome to the living room. It's open, bright and the heart of our home. (the kitchen is too small and closed off to be the heart of anything). This is where we spend the majority of our time. The kids are pretty well contained, and I can complete whatever I am working on and at least hear them if not see them.

before and after

The house that we are currently living in was built in the 90's. Nothing wrong with that... however, some of the colors and overall style choices the owners made are slightly outdated ridiculous. So we are slowly making some easy changes. Nothing too big (we are renting for only a year). The most obvious thing is taking down the awful curtain and shutters in the kitchen (seen here). The end result is better light and fewer headaches from large stripes in my face all the time.
We hope that painting the kitchen is one of the next things we do to make the best of what we have and make this feel a bit more like our home for the time being. That depends on the owners and how attached they are to the days of Baywatch and Saved by the Bell they are.
We shall see.

for holly

a while  ridiculously long time ago, my friend Holly asked to see some pictures of the house after we had moved in and gotten somewhat settled. I failed. So, better late than never, here are some pictures.
I decided to do a room or two at a time rather than overwhelm you with pictures....

The bedding was a Christmas present (kinda) from Steve's parents. (Thanks Paul and Edith!!)
It's Cynthia Rowley. I originally REALLY wanted this set from Anthropologie, but it really doesn't make any sense to spend that much on really nice bedding when we have some pretty messy kiddos who love to watch TV in bed with mom. So the obvious choice was to find something similar with a reasonable price tag.
The corner where the rocking chair currently sits is eventually going to house my sewing table and machine. We just got my table back from my sister last time we went home, and it is currently in the garage awaiting a coat of paint.
This is the giant baby who can be found in my bed whenever I am in the room.
This is the tiny kitchen. It isn't too terrible. There is a ton of storage, much more than we had at the old house.
The little eat in part fits our table and chair perfectly. There is a little window seat that you can sort of see in the far left corner at the end of the table.

So there are the master bedroom and kitchen. Hopefully that will hold you over until I can get a couple of other rooms put together enough to photograph.
The end.

clocks

There are obviously things that I am going to have to get used to being in a new place. One thing that I simply can't get used to is not having a clock in the living room. Our old cable box had the time displayed. The new one just has the channel number... (not very helpful). After a week, I have come to the conclusion that I can't handle not having a clock in here. After rummaging around on the internet for a pretty time piece, these are some of my favorites.

I love the little birdy!

This one is soooo classic and pretty in black. It would go so well with our Audrey above the fireplace. This is just amazing!

This one reminds me of a really old high school classroom. Who doesn't love that? (At least after you've already done your time in school)

goodbye house

Pictures by Holly Dwan

These are the last days we will be at this house. My home. Our home.
This is the first house we bought. This is where both of my sons came home to from the hospital.
This is where we have laughed, cried, perhaps yelled once or twice...
This has been a great home. I am certainly going to miss it.

i am loved...

i got the chair. apparently not EVERYONE on craigslist is as dependable as the mister and i... some of them actually don't show up, thus leaving the next person in line (muah) to score an awesome deal.

now i just need a rug....
i love my life!
