another baby gift

Geez. I can hardly keep up with everything going on right now. Between holidays, babies being born, and everyday things that need to be done, I am pretty sure that I am going to pass out one of these days.... probably while buying Christmas decorations at Target.

ANYHOW... I made yet another baby quilt for a sweet little boy due sometime in mid-January.

I am a huge fan of the orange, brown, and blues. Hopefully this will keep that little guys toesies warm this winter.

Also, I started cutting out pieces for our own little guy's quilt. I am still unsure about just what pattern (if any) I am going to go with.... I have pinned a ton of quilts for inspiration. You can see them here if you like. My only real goal is to be done with it before the baby gets here. I don't care if I am still sewing in between contractions... (HA!)

I took a quick instagram photo of the pieces before West ran across them... but I am pretty sure that I am in love with the colors and patterns.

a baby gift

I went to a shower this afternoon for a friend from church. I generally stick to registries when buying gifts, but as of late I have become a huge fan of hand made presents for new babies. They seem so much more important in the months after birth. I love the handmade gifts I recieved for my boys, and hope this soon to be mama will like the quilt I made her, too.
This particular mama requested that we stay away from traditional baby colors and mentioned that brown and olive green were the colors that she likes.
Luckily, I already had the brown and green fabric on hand and really just had to pick up a few coordinating fabrics to put this blanket together. Stephen was nice enough to watch the kids all day yesterday while I sewed like a mad woman in order to finish this in time for the shower.
I really, really hope they like it.

Busy busy busy...

I have just entered the third trimester of this pregnancy (don't expect a belly picture any time soon), and it hit me like a mac truck. Basically as soon as week 27 rolled around I have felt the need to tackle each and every thing that is or ever might be on my to do list.
For example: yesterday I NEEDED to go through each box of clothes that the boys have grown out of/are waiting to grow into and sort, refold, and finally put them all back into boxes. Unfortunately, the end result is now something like this due to the fact that I have a ton of stuff to donate, and I have yet to decide where to store said boxes.
I also finally attacked the pile of fabric that was waiting to  be turned into pillow covers. My previous covers (seen here) were a bit "spring-y" for me right now (yup that's a word), and I really wanted something a bit more subdued.
The floral fabric is a Pottery Barn curtain that I found at a thrift shop and the yellow patterned fabric is the stuff I bought way back here and have been waiting to decide just what to do with it.
I am pretty sure I am going to make some more, but haven't found any more fabric that I am in love with just yet. Besides everything I do is pretty much a constant work in progress.

Speaking of works in progress- I messed with some fall do-dads on the mantle as well.
I am pretty sure that all of this energy is going to leave any day now, and that my husband with literally have to drag me out of bed every morning. I am just trying to use it while I have it.

lately

Here are some of the things that I have been doing while the kids were sleeping or happy playing by themselves:

When I saw this guy at the thrift store, I just had to have him. I saw past the ugly brown and black and the years of dust that the poor thing had collected. I saw something amazing. For $10 there was no way I was leaving without him. So I took him home, took out my can of white, high gloss and in about 10 minutes I had something lovely.

The one below is the West Elm owl table lamp. I think mine looks just as good. (but i might be a bit prejudice)
Keeping with the owl theme, I found a few different cuddly owl pals that I liked on Etsy
and made my own pattern based on the lot of them. This one was for West's birthday a few weeks ago, and I love him. West likes to lay on him like a big pillow. It's kinda cute. I wish I had a picture of it.
And lastly, the mister has been after me to replace some pillows that I had gotten rid of from the living room. Apparently it isn't as comfortable to lie down without a pillow or two. I made a pair of covers in the green fabric and am currently experimenting wih the rosettes on the smaller one. I like that they are off center a kinda silly looking. It's backed in floral fabric that matches the green pillows. They will do for now, but I have a few projects that I want to get started on now that the weather is pretty. These will either stay or be replaced depending on what fabric I end up using for the other projects.

look what i did...

Just so you know... I did it.

Annnnnnnd I might have gone a little overboard with the pictures above the TV... but I like it!
I am in love with so many of the prints that we have been collecting for the past year or so, that I couldn't pick just a few. I added some family pictures and the word "PRAY". It's so nice to look around and actually like what I see.

worth a shot

I have become mildly obsessed with THIS BAG. Fossil just has a way with pretty things. You agree, yes?
I already have the smaller version of the bag and love it soooooo much! (thanks, mom) Therefore, I can't really justify buying a bigger version with a bigger price tag... This leads me to this week's project. I am attempting to make this bag. Insane, right? I know. It will obviously not be laminated canvas with lovely birds and flowers and such.
It might turn out to be a huge mistake that ruins my confidence in my sewing skillz, or it might be a huge success and give me a bit of a big head for a while... Whatever the case, it's worth a shot. Wish me luck!

lovely wednesday

We spent some time outside this afternoon while baby slept.
Harry ran around and I wandered through the yard, read a book, journaled and talked to Emily. While wandering, I found this pot nestled up next to the house... the tiny tomatoes are probably not going to make it, but I am going to attempt to save them.

This is my latest project... I only just finished it the other day (not that it was very time consuming... but when time to work on something of my own is a luxury....Things tend to get put aside)
The pattern is from Sublime Stitching... I just added the "sew". I hope that it will remind me to take the time to do something just for me...

I looked down long enough to see my bare big toes looking back at me... obviously these shoes are not going to be kind to me during the winter months... Ah, TOMS, I love you! Why did you have to die so quickly?!

and it's thursday already.

yesterday i turned around and all of my pots and pans were laid out on the kitchen floor. in their place was an active two year old who kept saying "cheese" until i got the camera and took his picture.however, i did manage to finally finish this pillow that has been sitting around my house for about a month...
i found this pillow
on etsy and really liked the concept, but wanted something with more red.
so i embroidered the tree and initials and sewed a red border to add the pop of color i wanted.
i like it alot.

what was i thinking?

yesterday, i literally went into my stash of random fabric and decided to make a quilt. note: i have never made a quilt before and have no idea what i am doing. amazingly enough, the process has been relatively painless.

the top picture is the front, and the bottom picture is the front and a peak at the backing. like i said, we'll see how this actually turns out...

this is exactly why i need stephen to finish the sewing room soon...

and here is the little boy that is being very patient with me...
